Know Thyself to Know What Career – Identify a Career

It is so important for you while in high school to understand what it is you love to do. Knowing what you dislike and likes are critical to your long-term success and happiness. There are a number of scientific methods to assess your likes and dislikes, internal and external motivators and personality types to help you learn more about yourself.

Self Assessments can also be matched up with results on what career would best suit you.  Your values, interests and skills, in combination with certain personality traits, will make some careers especially suitable for you and some particularly inappropriate. You do have the option to choose to have a career counselor or other career development professional to administer these assessments.

However, before you pay someone to find out more about your personality and what kinds of careers would be best for you, approach your high school counselor to see if they have any test available that you could take to assist you in finding out more about yourself.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Contact your high school counselor and set up an appointment.
  2. Ask your counselor if they have any assessments that are available for assessing your personality, values, likes and dislikes? Explain to the counselor that you are very interested in trying to identify what kinds of careers you are best suited to do the rest of your life.
  3. If they do not have any test, ask the counselor if they have any resources they know of that can assist you. If none, please contact us for guidance at myfinancialaidcounselor@gmail.com.  We will do our best to assist you in finding resources.
